Investor checklist

To help your Wealth Manager build a picture of where you are now, you may want to make a note of the following information and bring it along to your first meeting:

Goals

  • What do you want to do in your retirement?
  • What short, medium and long term goals do you have?
  • How important are these goals?
  • What are you doing about them?


Assets

  • Cash – your savings and term deposit account balances and where they are held.
  • Property – estimated value and the outstanding balance of your home loan/s.
  • Shares and other investment assets – look for statements or valuations.
  • Superannuation schemes, such as KiSaver or pension schemes – how much do you have in them and where are they held?


Your expenses

  • Borrowings – how much and who from; include hire purchase, credit cards and finance.

  • Upcoming expenses – any plans you have for large expenses, such as a wedding, new house, new car, or travel.

  • Regular outgoings – a rough idea of how much you spend on everyday living.


Income

  • Wages, salary or drawings.
  • Dividends or investment income.
  • Rental income.


Personal information

  • Your tax status, IRD number and tax rate.
  • Life insurance policy information, including who is insured and for how much.


Legal entities and businesses

  • Any legal entities you are involved in, such as a family trust, company or partnership.
  • Any business interests you have, such as running your own company or being a silent partner.
